Welcome, one and all, back to The GCN!

I apologise for the time it took to get back online, but this upgrade was quite extensive, plus there was the fact that Zeth wanted me to modify the skin that we have by default. Now, the changes are:
  • Full website intergration. As such, the original URL of http://core.the-gcn.com is no longer valid. Any use of that URL will redirect you to the main domain. You will be logged in entirely, and your user group will determine which pages you get access to. Currently, all users (excluding banned, but including guests) have access to all pages, but this will change as more are added.
  • Internal download system. Community members can upload their own files (2MB maximum), for sharing throughout the community. All files submitted will be subject to approval. In addition, all official GCN sanctioned files, such as administrator projects and other miscellaneous content will also be found within. Support topics are automatically created for each download submitted.
  • A new look. Yes, you will notice that our default look has changed significantly. Please bear in mind that I am still making some slight edits to this skin, so please be patient. I know it's not perfectly colour co-ordinated for the moment, but I am working on rectifying that.
  • Avatars/Photos, as well as profile information and signatures have been reverted. You will need to reset them. This is due to the new system's way of parsing.
  • Social media linking is now more readily available in the default look. You can combine your account with your Facebook or Twitter account and follow us easily. You can even Like a post.
  • Sakura has been reinstated as an administrator.
Unfortunately, this upgrade has seen us need to remove a few features, such as the Xbox Live plugin, and a couple of BBCode, but those may make a return in the future, providing upgrades can be made to them.

If you find any bugs, simply announce them in the Bug Tracker. You can find it under the More tab.

I hope you enjoy the new look!

Sometime in the future, depending on finances, I am planning on making some heavy site upgrades. It will provide a massive amount of intergration with the forums, and overall, should improve how things are maintained. There is only one unfortunate part to this...

The software I need costs US$50. Of which I currently do not have. I am therefore (begrudgingly, because I hate begging) asking for any donations that can be made to help this progress along quickly.

I appreciate any help greatly.

Nintendo is also introducing an optional accessory that gives Nintendo 3DS owners a second analog stick to control compatible games. The Circle Pad Pro will launch in the United States on Feb. 7. It will be sold through GameStop stores at a suggested retail price of $19.99. The Circle Pad Pro is a comfortable cradle that holds the Nintendo 3DS system while adding an analog Circle Pad on the system's right side. The attachment also adds additional shoulder buttons to give it a feel more akin to traditional console controllers. It is designed as an optional accessory and is compatible with Resident Evil Revelations and METAL GEAR SOLID 3D Snake Eater.

Good news, especially for those who have a Nintendo 3DS and/or Xbox 360. A system update has been released for both.

The 3DS system update gives additional extras for the Mii Plaza, as well as a new Nintendo Zone application. I haven't been able to access it properly yet, due to there being no Nintendo Zones around me, but you can access special content on the go.
Nintendo Zone

Access special content on the go at thousands of public locations!

  • ACCESS SPECIAL CONTENT & OFFERS
Watch 3D videos, explore games, access special offers & promotions, and more!
  • PREVIEW NINTENDO 3DS GAMES
View Nintendo 3DS screenshots, watch 3D videos, download demos, and more!
  • GET CONNECTED
Access Nintendo eShop, play compatible Nintendo 3DS games online, browse the Internet, and get surprise SpotPass content!

As for the Xbox 360, the Dashboard has had a complete overhaul, and it is now in the format of the new board, which is similar to that used with the Kinect Dashboard. You can also Sync with Cloud now, so online saves are in.

How's that for a slice of gold?

This year, Ninty might finally get a GotY! YES! :) :) :) :)

EDIT: This isn't GotY, just the player's fav games. Though G4 is definitely helping to turn the tides.

PETA - People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals - is known for taking some wild stands against various forms of entertainment. But its most recent target is a rather surprising one - everyone's favorite plumber, Mario.

"When on a mission to rescue the princess, Mario has been known to use any means necessary to defeat his enemy - even wearing the skin of a raccoon dog to give him special powers," the site asserts. "Tanooki may be just a "suit" in Mario games, but in real life, tanuki are raccoon dogs who are skinned alive for their fur. By wearing Tanooki, Mario is sending the message that it's OK to wear fur."
