  1. Shadow Fire, once again I am reminded even your *friends* are way cooler than I will ever be.
  2. That is GREAT news. Congratulations!! Now I don't have to feel like a vulture if I use stuff from your project in ZB2. Too many people are going to miss the good news here. I suggest you make a post just for that so everyone can wish you well.
  3. Maaaaaan, this sucks. It's really grand of you to leave your work for others, but still it sucks that you had to drop the project. Thanks though. Good luck in whatever you do next. Trust me, when you've got skills like yours, you can't hardly fail.
  4. Title says it all. I've been working al week on the core of ZLE3, basicly a front in for XDaniel's F3DEX2. The end goal is to make a 100% hardware compatible map converter. Due to XDaniel's thought fullness on the command line of F3DEX2, I feel I have a really good chance at success. Basicly, the goal of ZLE3 right now is to create a perfect, easy to use tool for both converting the OBJ, and adding headers with all possible options. It's in the very first stages, but don't let that fool you. ZLE2's first test could only change the name of MAP SELECT. It got laughed at until 2 weeks later, I released the complete working program. Wish me luck.
  5. Hey everyone. When I do an update, I like to highlight the works of a single member of the team. This update, as promised, I interview the head of music for the project the talented punk7890. JSA: Why do you like to do music? punk7890: I see music as a way to express myself without words. Generally I write music solely to satisfy myself. It's an added bonus if others like it as well. Though when writing music for a mod I would take into account the game's overall feel then the area in need of music. More to the point, I like to be creative and express feelings through music, hence why I like making music. JSA: cool. punk7890: I guess if you can see yourself in a part of your own creation (ex: art), you've done a good job JSA: They teach music theory in school, yet many say you can't teach the art of music. Do you agree, and how do you feel about teaching music? punk7890: I'm not really sure how they teach it in school to be honest. I've learnt playing piano for 4 or so years and learnt composing threw my teacher at the time.About a year or so after that I had the basic foundation of understanding and creating my own songs. From there I just built up on what I learnt threw out the years. I think you really can't teach the soul of what music is to someone, they have to build and find it themselfs. At least, my music is very personal. JSA: Changing gears, you've long been a part of the Zelda community. How did that get started, and why do you stay an active member of the community? punk7890: Hmm. It started in the ZSO days and from there sorta came back through out the years. It basicly stopped and I lost interest in 08 but stuck around for any serious modders that needed a hand in music. JSA: Yeah, and thats a very good thing. Do you feel that the current mods are what you've been waiting for? punk7890: Yeah. I can't quite say for the other mods out there as I don't look around all that much but ZB2 is looking and sounding quite awesome. I think the first project I did music for was URA, but sadly got canned. punk7890: Oh and Adventure's of Tingle, also canned JSA: Yeah, we were all bummed about URA. punk7890: It really was quite amazing behind the scenes JSA: Oh really? Care to eleborate some for those of us who were not there? punk7890: Sadly, I don't have Skype records anymore since I'm on a new computer but the stuff Spire and Zeth talked about in terms of the story where really in depth and fleshed out. That was really interesting to read. It was like I was apart of something big that was going to happen. And of course Sakura's programming skills. Not to mention the art Spire did where really well done. JSA: Do you feel ZB2 can avoid URA's fate? If so, why? punk7890: That's mostly up to you as head. I have hope that it will get released, and hopfully many people will play it and enjoy it. As for avoided the fate of URA. It's mostly because (from what I take) you have mostly all the parts in the game now correct? URA barely did from what I can tell. It was all in the minds, but never on paper. Basicly hardly any of it was in ROM (or at least I never seen anything from the 3 months that I was there). punk7890: Don't want to dig up old stuff but tl;dr; I know you can do it. You just have to relize you got all the time in the world JSA: anyways... Next questions, 2 parts 1. How do you feel about ZB2 and.. 2. How do you feel about the future of zelda n64 modding. punk7890: 1. It looks quite neat (all the maps and such) and sounds neat (playing as 3 different chars? Nice). 2. Hmm. I'm not sure. I've never really been a big part of it. I'm sure if people have time to mod and relize there's no set limit/date on anything that it can still be around for awhile. JSA: Final Question. Just tell us what's in your future. Music, or otherwise. punk7890: Not really sure what the future will hold for me. It would be neat to do something music related. Though I can't see myself making music 24/7 so I'd be hard to say. Hopfully coming out with a album or 2 when I spark some inspiration JSA: Thanks This concludes the interview part. Here are punk7890's current tracks for ZB2. A arrangement of A Link to the Past's Death Mountain theme https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bz8PWXTWctXKcVh4ZFlqbklja1E/edit?usp=sharing A original dungeon theme (name not reviled yet as could be a spoiler) https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bz8PWXTWctXKa0pna1pPRVNKd3c/edit?usp=sharing And a remix of the Light Overworld theme from LttP https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bz8PWXTWctXKN0pOSWRMazV1Yk0/edit?usp=sharing And here are some of punk's non-zelda works. Give them a listen too. https://soundcloud.com/punk7890/plains-of-eternity https://soundcloud.com/punk7890/sc-55-movement-1-field-village https://soundcloud.com/punk7890/ancient-palace
  6. ? *googles OrdosAlpha* WOW! Man alive, a member of a game hacking community who's history rivals the level of dedication of even the best members of our own humble Zelda hacking. Seriously man, cool to see you hear. My name is John. Enjoy your stay.
  7. Thanks MelonSpeedruns, for keeping the topic warm. I've been trying to get my latest update for the topic ready, but I can't seem to meet up with the featured ZB2 member to do so. In recent news though, the project add a new member. A new map maker who for some reason doesn't want his or her name on the project(shy?). I'll have some pics when they get their temple to me(hint: Get to it, you know who you are). Also, I've chatted very shortly with the multi-talented Sakura. Sakura is well know in zelda modding in her own right. I'm finding out from her just how possible or impossible all the dreamed up items for ZB2 will be to convert to reality. So far though everything is looking good there too. In the mean time just know that the demo is in the works and is coming along. As I said before, don't expect stuff like cutscenes or even very much game play. Think of the first demo as a mini cupcake, and the finished game a full 3 layer bakery cake. The ones they put in the front window to attract customers. Trust me when I say ZB2 will be just as sweet and filling when complete. Thank you everyone for being patient. Expect that patience to get reward soon with the first demo.
  8. Crap, I never said thanks.... Thanks CDi-Fails, not just for the logo, but for making the 2.0 logo against my will. I still thought the first one was great. It's just that, you were right, version 2.0 is even great.
  9. I hate to see any ROM hacking project fail. Well, except for maybe one that involves turning pokemon into a white pride/ KKK propaganda, or anything that involves making a PG title XXX-rated... *ponders* ANYHOW! The bitter truth is a ROM hack is often a soul sucking effort. No matter how much you thin you are ready, it seems to always take 300% more than you prepared for. Make you wonder if professional game design works the same way doesn't it? But even then it's not the same. There's no pay check, and people always expect more no matter how epic you made it. You work your ass off just so some new comer with 3 forum post can say he could have done so much better. Anyways, you have so many other great projects going. So don't feel bad. You've already done as much as anyone here ever did.
  10. Oh good, I had the 1.0 version... I wasn't going to make a fuss if I had lost 2.0. Thanks Sairugoth, you're a life saver.
  11. *BUMP* The Logo was lost again. This time it was while I was transferring the entire Project to it's new home, my laptop. This is the final home for the project. So anyone with the Logo send it, so I can start making the ZB2 preview videos. Thanks Had it on my a thumb drive.
  12. Progress continues FAST now. I've got maps flying in, punk keep making music, and people are starting to notice. This temple is by new map maker Armos, also known as ZEN. This is his first map ever, but if you ask me, he's off to a very good start.
  13. *Cough, Cough* Um, I think you want the room down the hall.
  14. I'd have maybe taken offense if it wasn't just the plain truth. Also... I missed that somehow! Freaken AWSOME!!! Also, why doesn't the pic repost? LAME.
  15. I don't think I got to know you the first time around did I? Anyways nice to meet you now. Hope we can work together some time.
  16. I can't say enough good about this tool. We have needed this kind of tool in OoT modding for years and now we've got it. It says a lot that I quit using my own tool that did the same thing in favor of this one. It has a clean interface, and is easy to understand and use. For instance, I wanted to do the title from the title screen. Minus the time it took to edit, it took me literally *seconds* to export and import the exact texture I wanted. My review? Flawless!
  17. Your work is so great already. The future holds great things for you, I just know it.
  18. From the "real" first anime I ever watched.
  19. I still feel down right guilty for not having played this yet. Giardosich was a great modder around here (IIRC who I disagreed with on some cutscene format data). I still recommend this as a great mod to play from time to time, even though I've never had the time to try it myself.
  20. Thanks Vex. I've found the best solution for everyone, and updated the first post to reflect this.
  21. Is that the Shieakah's shield I see? Or will I have to wait for the game to get that question answered?
  22. Yeah, well while all this commentary on Link's movement not looking natural is informative, one thing seems to have been missed. It's a Work In Progress. We're still early on. Literally nothing is in it's finished form yet. So it's probably going to look entirely different by the time it's done away. So why even comment on what amounts to a demonstration of the game in what, pre-alpha form? Give it a few more days, and the animation is bound to look different. And the finished product will probably look different than what we see then. (a few days from now) Please, give it time. I know this project is gonna be killer when finished.
  23. Site: chat.mibbit.com Server: irc.badnik.net Channel: #zc2 Found a good compromise solution, and hopefully a new room to call home. The room was created by Bloodstar of the Zelda Classic Forum, so i owe him a debt of gratitude. This way my old #zelda buds can reach me easy without having to even leave the room. If you want to reach me simply enter... /query JSA I miss chatting with all of you from #zelda. Don't be strangers, ok? And the rest of you, drop by anyways. I prefer to hang out in a chat room. If you need help on modding, or want to help on ZB2, this will be an easy way to reach me. Also this is home to #TCRF, a great community in it's own right. If you choose to chat in their room, do so with manners in mind. It's a more mature room, and requires maturity from it's users. Thanks john_smith_account
  24. I don't think you two realize what you have yet. This is HUGE. I've been IRC room hoping all week, and word is already spreading about this project. I also gotta say the pace at which it's progressing would make a certain blue hedgehog have to stop to catch his breath. Keep it up!
  25. Al Stewart - Year Of The Cat Beautiful and meaningful in oh, so many ways. Very nice song for summer. I've always dreamed life was best lived the way this song portrays, if only one didn't entangle themselves in modern distractions.
