  1. You have to use the N64 Sound Tool 1.1, locate the sound you want to change and it should give you the offset in the actual audiotable (It'll be the offset within the audiotable file, NOT in conjunction with the full ROM) Using a hex editor, search for that offset that if gives you, then once it locates it, change it to the offset you have moved your audio to.
  2. Nope, there are pointers that tell the game exactly where the sound data is located. If you move data, you must change the pointers to reflect that change.
  3. I hope you do make a speedy recovery, JSA. I imagine not knowing exactly what's wrong and being in a lot of pain has thrown your entire mind into a tizzy. Just take care of yourself and get better!
  4. I've never been able to figure it out yet. I guess the only way so far is if you could rip the Navi name in a raw format and locate that hex code in the game? I've been trying to find Navi's texture for the c-up icon in the game, but I can't find the real one. Ripping the textures from hex is tricky, and varies on byte size and type. I'm getting good at deciphering which ones they could be, but finding them is still a trial-and-error process (especially when ZLE2 doesn't dump them). I found "Navi" in do_action_static, but it's not the right one (possibly beta texture). I need halp!!! I'm moving this over here since this is more related to your thread of replacing Navi. I believe what you found is beta because if what you're talking about is what I'm thinking about, I found that long ago too and replaced it and it didn't make a bit of difference. I've changed my fairy to Tatl so I want to replace Navi with Tatl. I was hoping maybe using Rice's plugin to dump the texture and then convert it to RAW using ZLE2, I might be able to find where in the ROM it is located. There's a PNG2RAW converter in there but I kinda forgot how it works. ^^;

  6. Technically, yes. However, I've had a hard time trying to get the sound to actually sound good. When I use this method for some reason, a lot of clips sound distorted and not very loud. Almost like volume turned way up loud where it is distorted but yet it doesn't sound that loud. I hope that makes sense. But yes, I've replaced Navi's voice with an extremely terrible rendition of Tatl's dinging using this method.
  7. This is turning into a truly awesome project, I'm excited for its release!
  8. Aha, you're using midi, I was looking for you to say that in one of your earlier posts. Well, the sad fact is that sometimes they don't work. I have a few cues I really wanted to import but for some reason when they are converted and played in the game, they play nothing at all, no matter what instrument set is used. I don't know why this is. So here's a tip, create a copy of your ROM and then convert whatever you want to use to a zseq file and then overwrite sequence #2, Hyrule Field. Boot up the game and put yourself in Hyrule Field. If it plays, then go on ahead with making a new instrument list. If not, you might need to find a new file with the same music. Until we can get DeathBasket to offer us a solution to this, then this is all we can do for now.
  9. Or do what I do, map controller one to all four controller ports so my 1 controller acts as all four of them. Haven't had a hitch in that plan yet. Glad I could help out
  10. What I do is look at the debug ROM scene listing: http://wiki.spinout182.com/w/Zelda_64_Scene_Listings:_Debug_ROM I jump to whatever address the scene I want to replace the music in via a hex editor and look for 150200 (usually that's what it is I believe). After 15 it can be any other number though, not just 02, I'm just throwing it out as an example. But your audio header will always begin with 15. 81210B2F 1111 is the gameshark code to enable to audio debugger. Using your R button, go over to the page that says Block Change BGM and then use your + pad to select a track and press the A button to play. VERY VERY useful
  11. Check out Deathbasket's site as it'll list all the instrument lists associated with a certain music cue. Then you just go ahead and rip all the instruments using InstEd and follow the instructions on how to create a list and import those instrument samples into the game. https://www.the-gcn.com/topic/1582-oot-insted-instrument-editor/?p=24998 That thread and post should help you tremendously.
  12. @Dan: There is no details button on this error for some reason. This is what it looks like when the error comes up. It does seem to open up a clean ROM perfectly so I'm not quite sure what the problem is here.
  13. Why is it when I go to open my mod in progress, I get an error saying Source array was not long enough. Check srcIndex and length, and the array's lower bounds. What does this mean and how can I fix it?
  14. Well, most of the HUD's properties are stored around the offsets I listed. It's basically just a trial and error process to find out which does what. I think if you had enough time, you'd be able to change everything stored in the ROM. I almost have the original N64 button colors for the A and B buttons. I also moved the A button down a bit to emulate Majora's Mask's A button location.
  15. Thanks you guys, the info truly helped! I do have some notes I took for anyone who is interested in the changes I found. This is of course for the Debug ROM only! 0xb88097 0xb8809F 0xB880B7 (A Button Color) 0xB8879F (A button icon Y Axis) 0xB8889F (B button Y Axis) 0xB888C7 (B button text) 0xB880A7 (B button X Axis) 0xB880A9 0xB880BF (B button color related?) I only took a few notes so far but it's definitely a start.
  16. I have a question I'm hoping someone can answer for me. I've started modifying the HUD in Ocarina of Time and I've been able to use the memory viewer to make changes that I want to but it's all in RAM. So what I want to know is how can I go converting the RAM addresses into ROM address. I've been able to make the changes I wanted in the mem viewer but trying to convert it into something permanent is where I get stuck. Any help will be appreciated.
  17. Another issue I'm hoping *can* be ironed out is the fact when you're using ZAP2 and you go to move items that don't have textures at all on one side, it seems the game's camera always goes to that side for viewing so when you go to move or rotate the actor, you cannot see where it measures up to where you want it to go. For example, an eye switch doesn't have textures on the back of it and so when you go to move it, it seems the camera always rotates to the back of the switch and it's almost impossible to figure out where the heck you're putting it or if it's even rotated correctly. I hope that makes sense.
  18. I used spinout's porter quite often and I don't think I've run into any issues. Do you have vPython installed as well? I think it requires both Python and vPython in order to work and along with having the same version which I'm not sure is a requirement but I use version 2.6 for (v)Python so the two will play nicely with each other.
  19. What's the big deal about updating it? When my Wii was updated, I didn't notice any type of difference. It should be just about playing games, not having a computer in every single place in your house.
  20. There was a time when consoles didn't have an internet connection, period. I honestly miss those days. I have my Wii on the internet but I used it for years without one and it worked just fine. I don't see the big deal of having internet on it except for the sole purpose of multiplayer gaming or in the Wii's case, Virtual Console (don't know about other consoles except the DS as well). Other than that, totally unnecessary.
  21. I took this challenge and not even fully understanding it, I just searched for the most random things that popped in my head. I've been an avid Google user for years and as I had expected, I preferred Google on each search I did on Bing. I wonder how much these people on their commercials are getting paid to promote Bing.
  22. I always thought Gohma was a bit of a joke. Even for a first boss. I mean, even Odolwa was harder in my opinion! In fact she stays knocked out too long as well I think. Can you decrease the time from when you hit her with the slingshot and she goes down to the time she recovers and is back up on the walls?
  23. So, I ported over the Tourist Hut from Majora's Mask and I want to make that my new Bazaar. I moved the shelves back behind the counter with the guy, however, the items are not on the shelves put instead floating in mid air on a different angle. So what my question is, how do I move these? When you talk to the owner of the shop, you disappear and then have a very awkward camera view trying to select an item. I really think it has something to do with the items being in the wrong place. So, what's it actually tied to? Is it the camera angle of you coming in which it sorta seems that when you enter the shop, they're right in your view...or is it tied with the shelves and the shelves are messed up? I really hope that makes sense. Here's a picture of what I'm talking about I can't seem to fix this problem.
  24. I love the idea of recycle drives! I think it's a great thing and I believe there should at least be more stations out where people can drop off used electronics. Now I live in somewhat of a rural area so I don't have many options like that. Of course I don't own a smartphone and never will so that's not an issue for me But for the other people, if you're gonna upgrade, recycle your old device! There is two sides to every coin and it's funny you bring up computer programming. While you guys are smart...what about when you're gone? As you said, computer programmers will be down, if people don't get the smarts to program these machines...how will you progress? It's bad enough when people need a computer to tell them how to make freakin change! It's sad when you have to tell a cashier what change you should be getting back. But I'm afraid if people don't get smarter, when the smart ones die off...who'll be there to program these things? You know? No, you're absolutely right. Especially with Obamacare coming into play, many employers are cutting back hours just to avoid paying health care benefits to their workers because "they can't afford it". I mean...seriously? You raise the prices of your products to terribly ridiculous levels and then work your employees to the bone for little pay? Yes, you can afford it, you just don't want to.
  25. So, I'm aiming to have a serious discussion here with an open mind to both sides. So without any bashing or flaming of any kind, let's get this started. Since the recent attack here on GCN, it furthers my point that computers aren't as wonderful as a lot of people make them out to be. While they are awesome in many ways, they also cause a lot of problems at the same time. So let's start with the negatives from my perspective. First of all, when the internet goes, all content stored online is not available. When that happens...what do you do? Your reading material, your music, anything stored online is unavailable. Secondly, if your computer goes down, you have to worry about fixing it and spending a lot of extra time doing so. Also, if you're not careful, your data can be stolen and used for malicious purposes like identity theft. Of course I understand that more chances than not, it's the user's fault for not taking proper precautions. But now with things like Facebook where you can post basically your life on there and many people have no discretion what they actually post, it can all be used against you. Now, to my second argument. I truly believe that computers have cost many people their jobs. Computers can be used as self checkouts at the supermarket, toll booth collectors, even for online shopping! All this puts people out of work. While online shopping is convenient and certain things can only be found on places like eBay, it also puts local merchants out of business if you only shop online. Self checkouts....self explanatory. And look at email! Sure, I use email on a daily basis too, but that's putting the postal system at risk. That's why we have so much junk mail because if it wasn't for that, we probably wouldn't have a postal system and that would mean more people out of a job. Now, I sort of want to touch base with my first topic but on a different degree. I like printed media. I like being able to read a book, a printed out book. I also like having CDs and yes, even cassette tapes. In fact I like being able to have maps and atlases. But now with everything being crammed to the internet, some of this stuff is starting to disappear since demand for non-tech stuff goes down. I noticed the CD section is becoming smaller and smaller at the store and even the book section is smaller than it used to be. In fact I would never own a Kindle or iPad because its just not the same as what those devices are trying to replace. And is this really green? How many people actually do recycled used computers and tablets and smartphones? Especially now that they're becoming cheaper and if it breaks, you just get a new one. More and more of these things just end up in the landfill which really isn't helping the environment but actually hurting it more in the long run with all the toxic chemicals found in the circuit boards and capacitors. So, since I ranted about cons, I will list the pros. First off, they are fun! Heck, being able to hack a game like OoT is fun and would be impossible without a computer. I've spent probably too many hours working at my hack as it is now but it's fun changing things and getting your hands dirty! Second, I met my fiancee online. Been together two years running! Third, being able to meet new friends online is fun too! I've made countless friends online and some of them are really great! It's amazing how many nice people are out there in the world. Fourth, being able to contact others instantly is a good thing, especially when collaborating on a project. Being able to be together from different locations makes things easier and faster. Being able to share documents online is also a time saver since people can just grab it when they're able to. Fifth, where would we be without our downtime? Having fun on or offline? I like my games just as much as the next person. So, this is as far as I'll go here. But I'm really curious to see how others feel. Being more of a tech forum so to speak, this really outta be interesting. Remember though, no bashing on others ideas.
