BUMP. A lot more info is out about LBW, so lets copypaste my post on ZeldaSpeedRuns

 

Time to hype this game up.

 

There's been a lot of news about Link Between Worlds being leaked recently, so lets see if I can list 'm out.

 

The game takes place between Hyrule and Lorule. It appears that Lorule characters are based off of Hyrule ones. Ex. Hilda is the Princess of Lorule.

 

The main villain is named Yuga. At the moment it is not entirely known if it is a he or she (some refer to it as being he). The design of the head reminds me of Ganondorf.

Items will work differently this time around. There will be no dungeon items; instead items will be accessible from the beginning of the game from a weapon shop, and can either be rented or bought permanently. Rented items disappear on game over and will have to be bought again. Also, it seems items will consume magic.

 

Weapons can be upgraded. For example the bow can be upgraded to shoot three arrows instead of one, but will consume more magic. 

 

The dungeons in the game can be tackled in any order. Aonuma's comments on difficulty progression seem contradicting.

 

"But in the late dungeons, things do get more difficult. Within each dungeon, you’ll have a lot of obstacles to overcome using different actions."

 

"As far as the items themselves, even though you have the items from the beginning, some of them are more difficult to use. Some of them will take more practice. I think that’s where you’ll find the differences in difficulty showing up. You might find a dungeon that requires you to use an item that you maybe haven’t used a lot yet, so you have to train yourself in order to overcome something."

 

In terms of the difficulty level, each dungeon features new ideas involving the item you need to use there, so there isn’t some kind of process or order you can follow to make it easier. However, if you are using a particular item more than normal you will become more used to it so you may find it easier to complete the corresponding dungeon in that case. However this is a reflection of your own skills increasing so I think the game would be most fun if you try out lots of different approaches.

Monsters drop items that can be made into potions, similar to Windwaker / Skyward Sword.

 

Game hints can be bought with rupees while wearing the Hint Glasses instead of Fi.

 

Aonuma has hinted that Majora's Mask will have some impact on Link Between Worlds.

There's also the actual Majora's Mask on display in one of the game's buildings (I think it was the shop).

 

This leads me to believe that, with what Aonuma said, it is more than an easter egg: maybe Termina plays a role in the game. Maybe.

Maybe Lorule was/is Termina.

 

Regardless, this is actually one I'm looking forward to; it'll be interesting to see how well the Megaman philosophy of dungeon order is played out.

ZeldaUniverse is reporting that a 100% clear will take about 18 hours, that in Hero Mode enemies will deal 4x damage, and that there may be something extra for completing hero mode?

 

Also, it appears there won't be any restrictions on the number of items that can be rented.

Same here. (except I 100%ed Hero Mode several days ago)

I raced Mzxrules on SpeedRunsLive just the other day and it really was a blast.

 

I most likely wont get tired of this game for quite some time.

 

Every 3ds owner should get this game, because you most likely won't regret it.

Now this creates an interesting question... should an OoT Mod allow this sort of freedom? ALBW is revolutionary to the series in a way that hasn't been seen since the first Zelda and even in that you couldn't go to whatever dungeons you liked (or you could go in, but couldn't finish them) In some cases you needed the Ladder or the Flute or the Bow, etc. Whereas in ALBW there's barely any boundaries (except you need the Sand Rod to enter the Desert Palace)

 

Can using OoT as a base and making it more non-linear actually work? Granted there is a bit of that already. Once you have the Bow you can go and do the Fire Temple of Water Temple.The Shadow Temple and Spirit Temple can be done in either order... I think. From a story perspective it makes sense why they would prevent you from leaving Kokiri Forest until you defeated the Deku Tree, but from a gameplay perspective should it be more free? Or is Ocarina of Tim's semi-linearity the nature of the beast? That making it completely non-linear would mess with its formula to a great extent?

I think it would be cool if you were able to go to any dungeon in any order as long as you have to complete them all before going into a final dungeon (Who wants to skip most of the game and go straight to the end?) I haven't seen much about ALBW, but I'm assuming that's how it will be.. maybe?  If I were to make a mod like that for example I would make them all challenging yes, but I would have some more challenging survival wise ,others puzzle wise, and some even a mixture of both, and I would have tons of little rewarding side dungeons that aren't neccasary to beat, and I would make it possible for the story to have different outcomes depending on the order you do things, but nothing that will effect the key main parts of the ending story.

This is basically how OoT would be with the ALBW dungeon layout:

Imagine having to do Deku Tree first. After that you get to decide if you want to do Dodongo's Cavern or Jabu Jabu. (at this point you also get access to pretty much the entire child overworld)

When you become adult, you can go to all dungeons right away, except for for one, which would first require you to do Forest Temple first. (After Forest Temple, you'd get access to the entire adult overworld)

When you've done all dungeons, you unlock Ganon's Castle.

That's pretty much the exact layout in ALBW. It is VERY open. you choose the order of the 2nd and 3rd.

However, the difficulty level is not equal for all dungeons, not at all. There's one dungeon that is considered much harder than the rest, and a lot of people prefer doing it last so that they have better equipment and more health. (I guess kinda like how many wouldn't want to do Bongo Bongo with 6 hearts in OoT?)

And since you can get to the dungeons in any order, you can obtain all the items (except for 1, which would require you to beat Forest Temple first if you follow my example above) when you've obtained either Silver Scale OR Goron's Bracelet.

The dungeons would contain equipment/gear rather than items.

 

This is a lovely design. And if I ever were to make a mod, I'd do everything I can to keep it as open as possible, just like with ALBW.

Now that is an interesting comparison... probably just for stories sake you'd have to visit Zelda (you have to visit her in ALBW as well anyhow.) 

 

Have a Treasure Chest present with the Goron Bracelet so you don't have to necessarily learn Saria's Song (not yet anyhow. Mido should probably still guard the way as an Adult.) If you do, Darunia might give you... 50 Rupees or something if you play the song for him, nothing too Quest Essential considering you can miss the moment by beating Dodongo's Cavern I believe.

 

The stones blocking Zora's River should still be there, but there should be Bomb Flowers there that would only make you need the Goron Bracelet to get through (which you might possibly get in the Royal Family's Tomb, thereby you need Zelda's Lullaby). And from there the Child world would be open.

 

The idea of freeing Saria to get another quest essential item is a very thoughtful idea. What would that item be? In ALBW it's the 4th Dungeon and its getting the Sand Rod, what would be considered its equivalent that Saria could have... the Longshot maybe? That would require you to need those to beat the Water Temple. 

 

I guess in this idea for a mod, shops would sell your actual equipment as it works in ALBW then?
