Getting over a few problems...

I find there to be multiple problems about myself that I don't like. Venting to friends doesn't help fix that. I'd like anyone's input on how to help me get over this.

1. I have 0 hobbies. What I do, if you call it a hobby, is Mod Zelda OoT. Since that's the only thing I really know how to do..."well". I hardly see myself fit for anything, as I'm not a fan of any kind of sport. I barely do anything that is interesting, but I'd like to find something else to do for once...

2. Money is tight. I'm always seen as a poor kid who can't do anything at school or likewise by the Majority of the people. I have a zazzle store, in which I put up shirts or other products I design (www.zazzle.com/sanguinettimods) But it's not like anyone buys anything. I'm looking for a small job I can do, but I'm not exactly fit to Shovel Sidewalks in the winter, as that's about the only thing I can do when there is 3+ Feet of snow. I can't really do anything fun without some kind of money. (I don't get allowance, either, so, meh.)

3. I'm a large person. I know that some people feel intimidated by my size. My goal this summer is to start working out at a fitness center up the street, but it costs money (see problem 2) to go there. Rest is self explanatory.

My small group of actual friends is what makes everything worthwhile. Any input is appreciated.

Help in the windwaker hacking thread?

lol, but seriously try starting a blog about news and such, do you own a credit card? If you can get at least 100 views a day, it will multiply in numbers and you will get money out of the wazzu.

Enter contests, try showing your potential and enter contests with rewards with a possibility of earning a ton of cash.

Be a youtube partner, doing something silly can make you earn over 10,000 views and make allot of money a day, take that one kid who does poor reviews at eating food.

Grow up and get an official job. Be a waiter or at the cash register.

Just some ideas for you.

1. The best way to gain a hobby, is to try a lot of new things. If you have no hobbies now, I'd hazard a guess that you just haven't found something that you can really get into. Since you seem to have consistent computer/internet access, the sky's the limit as to what you can try out. You'll probably know when you've found the right thing, because it'll be something that you really care about and can see doing for a long time.

2. You're only 12, there aren't many ways to do better financially at the moment that I know of.

3. You don't need to go to a fitness center, the internet is a great way to research alternate ways to get fit. There are some decent suggestions, you don't need a lot money to get fit. I'm going to guess that you have no control over what you eat, so figuring out what appropriate portion sizes are for the kinds of things you eat is probably one of the most important things you can do for losing weight.

Either way, I'd relax a bit more. You have a lot of time to figure out who you are and what you're interested in, you're only 12. Money will sort it self out when you're old enough to get a job, and you're way ahead of the curve because I don't know a whole lot of 12 year olds that make an itemized list of problems and purpose potential solutions while being open to advice :P

You seem to be pretty tight with technology. Learn HTML and CSS (during the spare time which you seem to be in abundance of right now) - having website coding knowledge under your belt would be fantastic - especially if you can learn HTML5 (although HTML4 is cool, too).

Once you've got a decent grasp of HTML4 and CSS (and I mean a decent grasp), go around the local shops or business and see if they'd like you to make a website for them for a small fee (we're talking small, like $50 or a $100 really - although if they're willing to pony up more, don't decline it!). This will help with 2 things - your money and your CV. Obviously you're only 12, so right now your CV probably doesn't mean shit, and that's fine. HOWEVER, having a little bit of experience in some field while you're young is never a bad thing, and obviously neither is a bit of cash. Seen as you are 12, I believe you're eligible to have a savings bank account - once you start to get a bit of money ask your parent(s) on advice on high interest savings accounts. As they're adults, they should know a good thing or two on what the best bank is around, or can at least help you find one.

Save half of your money, and blow the other half on whatever the hell you like - after all, you've deserved it kid.

As for fitness - go walking. Do you have an MP3 player or even a CD player of some kind? Get some of your favourite music, or even better, if you have a weekly podcast you enjoy, go download that and shove it on a CD or your MP3 player and listen to that while going for a walk. The biggest curve for people walking is literally because they either find it too daunting or too boring. If you're listening to music or listening to an enjoyable podcast, the time will fly by while you're walking and all of a sudden half an hour or an hour will have gone by with you noticing. End of the day, you don't need to be paying attention to loose weight, as long as you're doing the exercise! I'd also cut out sugary drinks - replace with a no-sugar or low-sugar squash which you're able to highly dilute, this way you still get a nice flavoured drink without nowhere near as many suagrs in your system. This also saves on a fuck ton of cash (a 2 litre bottle of squash will last you a magnitude of times longer then a bottle of pop will). I'd also suggest not drinking anything but water after 9pm (or 3 hours before your bed time). This will allow your body enough time to flush out some of the "bad stuff" so it doesn't sit in there when you're asleep, which never hurts.

If you're drinking pop, there's a good chance it's got caffeine in it too, which will definitely not help you sleep, and also make you tired and slightly irritable. If you start to get some decent nights sleep (guys around your age usually need more then older people - so if you can get around 9-10 hours sleep it'd be a real benefit to you). The more awake you feel, the more alert you feel and you'll feel more able to get up and do tasks (like walking and coding websites!) and might even make you feel more confident just by feeling more perky.

All of the above should help with your confidence too, which I'm guessing has taken a knocking.

FUEL THE JET, WIN THE DAY.

I am the same, in a way. The problem is not that you don't do anything interesting but it's that nobody else finds the same things as interesting as you do. The difference, I think, is that I just accepted it and did nothing about it. I've never really had any friends and the few friends I did have saw me as being boring anyway and no longer talk to me. It doesn't help that I had to put up with being bullied and insulted for years just because I was cleverer than everybody else. I had no confidence and gave up on just about everything (bad times; depressed, lonely, couldn't concentrate etc.) until two years ago.

At this time I stopped trying to have friends or interests and just started focusing on my education and getting the best grades I could. I retook the exams I'd failed and came out of both with 100%. The only bad part is that after I finished college I couldn't make conversations with anybody; the two or three people who I considered friends accused me of not talking to them any more but they didn't exactly try talking to me either. What would be the point anyway? They knew I could not start or keep a conversation going. I may sound a little heartless but I just don't keep friends any more because I do not feel emotionally attached to anybody.

Now I'm at University and am still yet to meet people who are interested in the same things. I like to spend my time studying or doing work because I want to really understand it all but it doesn't seem that anybody else does; they just seem to be content with knowing how to pass the course. I also spend my free time reading, making music, cooking, swimming or even just walking (used to do a lot of the Zelda stuff too) but it seems nobody is interested in any of that either.

I realise I just wrote a lot of stuff that doesn't seem to be a real response to your post but the point I'm trying to make is that I think you want to have hobbies that make you fit in with other people (the way you said your hobbies aren't interesting makes it sound that way). Things won't always work out like that. I would encourage you to start reading about lots of different things until you find something you genuinely take an interest in and then go from there. For me this has always been mathematics, physics and astronomy. The advantage you have is that I never had the internet when I was growing up so I didn't have easy access to so much information. Whether or not other people are interested in what you like may become irrelevant as you get older but don't force yourself to take an interest in things just to fit in with other people, you just have to feel good about the hobbies that you do have that you enjoy.

I was in the same situation; if it's possible just don't let it affect you. Yes, you have to go without things and I know how that feels but there isn't really anything you can do at the moment.

I don't know how things work over there but over here you start receiving money once you get into higher education if you come from a family with low income. In my case I get >£2000 a year (besides student loans) to help with education fees because of this, as well as an extra £1000 for getting high grades in college.

Fitness is becoming a bit of a problem for me as I've had less and less time and opportunities over the last few years to do anything about it. I would recommend swimming or running if you can but obviously the former costs a bit of money, which could be a problem. I find that setting myself a goal for a minimum distance helps because I'll feel more determined and satisfied to complete it. Unfortunately there's nothing particularly helpful that you'll be able to do about this at home.

Well anyway I hope some of this helps.

Teej ones again swoops in with brilliant advice. Treadmill or just a neighborhood road plus some tunes and just half an hour a day kills both time and pounds. Believe me, I speak from experience.

Web design is a rapidly booming industry. Considering you have a talent for PhotoShop creations, I recommend looking into CSS. Even at your age you could make some serious money creating a small site for someone. When I was just 17 I took up a programming job that took about a month to finish and earned me 500 USD. Don't be daunted by your youth; get out there, talk to people, develop a portfolio to showcase your work, and you could end up living quite comfortably for someone your age.

I appreciate everyone's advice given to me.

As I do take walks in my spare time, sometimes it's not for exercise, but rather breathing fresh air that isn't full of smoke.

I've been looking into HTML actually, but at the same time, I'm afraid that I'd loose interest, as I did with programming in C. The case with that is, I've never been able to do anything except edit a few bytes in a ROM.

If I rant long enough, I'll eventually explain my life story... :P (We don't want that. :P )

Another subject, I've already been through this with Naxy multiple times, is love.

Why is it so pressuring to feel like you need to have someone or you're not "cool"? I don't particularly think that way, But it's kind of hard to ignore feelings that I have.

I'll continue appreciating any advice that I can get.

I should have also said learning HTML5 and CSS, along with JavaScript, will also come in handy to develop some Metro applications when Windows 8 comes out, which is another source of revenue for you (if your apps are good enough, you can shove them on Windows Store and sell them for actual money). This will then also open a new path for you -- developing in Unity, a fully fleshed out game development engine which allows you to develop whole games using nothing but a language called UnityScript, which is extremely, extremely similar to JavaScript. With a Unity Pro licence you can port your game to PC, iPhone, Android, PS3, XBOX 360 and Wii with ease.

re: Hobby/money: I always tried pursuing 'hobbies' which required money despite not having much money. If the internet is failing you in supplying money and or a hobby, see what you can do for little money off of the internet - build forts out of old/scrap wood, make art out of "garbage". A few things off the top of my head:

- bow and arrow - nylon string and a springy piece of wood (bamboo works well). Basically free, and can provide hours of entertainment

- carve things out of/into wood - just requires some sort of knife & patience

- cut & shape aluminum from old soda/beer cans into flowers, animals etc - you might be able to sell this kind of stuff too.

Based on what I've seen you do, you have a mind with plenty of potential and ability to do things of this nature.

re: Fitness, I am not the person to ask about this. The suggestions in this thread look like a good place to start, though.

Why is it so pressuring to feel like you need to have someone or you're not "cool"? I don't particularly think that way, But it's kind of hard to ignore feelings that I have.

It isn't so pressuring. A lot of things that people would usually say are reserved for "cool" people really are more misconceptions in people's minds about what other people think. This isn't very clear, perhaps an example would help to illustrate my point: When surveyed, most college students thought that most (> 50%) college students were regular-heavy drinkers, when in actuality, less than 20% are regular-heavy drinkers. This applies to many of the pressures you've been experiencing in social environments, and will continue throughout your education, if not further. Learn to ignore it and listen to your inner desires - they should be your ultimate guide.

Be yourself. Maintain your friendships. You have a lot of potential.

Man, you're a kid, be a kid. I still am a kid!

Hang out with your friends and make some more! I go play sports with my friends, and make an effort on FB to talk to them, and hang out. Go play sports with them, and they can get you into more. Be social and nice, but don't let them step on you.

Love? What do you mean? Do you like a girl/boy, but can't say it? Is that it? Well, try to look nice, and idk, pop pimples, use proactiv, and try to idk, exercise. If you know them enough, get on a good foot, be nice, and ask them to hang out. Works for me.

I had a friend of mine I met quite a few years ago who was 11, a neighbor girl I use to hangout with cause we shared a lot of common interest and I was basically like an older brother to her, but she use to draw artwork on deviantart and a few other art sites taking up art commissions. Doing like people's avatars/icons she was making $5 per one, so its an idea on what you can do or check with your local newspaper, sometimes people list odd and end jobs that need to be done.

As for your hobbies, give a try to new things, though I have to admit, my main hobbies seem to focus around Zelda related. >.>;;

But don't be afraid to try new things, you just might like it! :3

As for trying to lose weight, avoid drinking sodas, and intaking a lot of sugar, drink lots of water, eat decent size meals and lighter ones in the evening. On top of this, add taking a walk everyday for like 20 minutes, you'll begin to see the difference in yourself. You could even add in a few sits ups, like starting out with 5 every day and at the end of the week add one more to your normal sit ups you do.
