  1. Really? oh okay, I wasn't aware of that.
  2. Fair point, I can't argue with that. Although my main point was that the person in the OP seemed to have a problem with the general idea, rather then this specific implementation, but then blamed it all on Meyer, which isn't entirely fair.
  3. FPS - Half Life 2 (Halo 2, Goldeneye, Crysis 1 honorable mentions) TPS - Gears of War 2 Action Adventure - Skyward Sword (God of War 2, Ocarina of Time very honorable mentions) RPG - Dark Chronicle Fighting - Soul Calibur 2 ((Dragonball Z Budokai 3 extremely close second) Racing - Mario Kart 64 Casual - Wii Sports Tower Defence - Final Fantasy Crystal Defenders Side Scrolling - Super Mario Bros 1 (I used to speed run the shit out of this game years ago, got it down to like 8 minutes at one point!)
  4. It's all very well taking a new perspective on things. however, Vampires who are essentially sparkling human cannibals? That's... weird. Sometimes formulas shouldn't be tampered with, like "vegetarian vampires" (that's so PC it hurts) and all of a sudden Vampires being able to procreate. I wouldn't say Vampires being able to eat or feel emotion is hardly a new thing - Interview with a Vampire heavily covered this prospect - so it's hardly fair to call out Meyer on these two things when Anne Rice did this well over a decade ago (closer to 2 decades ago now). The take on the Lycans was an interesting one in Twilight and one that seems perfectly legit though, so far in the first 3 movies that I've watched, it makes sense. Twilight did some things right, but the vastly abstracted take on the Vampire creature was probably too much to swallow all at once, and it didn't help it was all wrapped up in adolescent cutesy bullshit to boot.
  5. Your new goal in life is to recreate this map. GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO I've had prototype map/rom dreams of Ocarina of Time before (although I literally went on a 12 hour bender hacking Ocarina of Time before going to bed), so I wouldn't say it's pathetic (or if it is, most of the guys here are apparently in the same boat as you, haha).
  6. HIs hair is whack.

    Hallo guys

Hey dude! Welcome to GCN Trust me, this is a great place to get your hacking skills up to scratch. I had very similar knowledge to you before I joined here and now I know much more Custom maps being one of them
  8. SHIT MAP Haha, I'm just kidding. This looks really awesome dude I like the map layout for sure. Will you be releasing a patch or an SO Project w/ source files so we can play it when it's finished?
  9. Fantastic, thanks guys I'll have a look at those links later
  10. Okay, so. My roots in game development stem from programming. Yes, while I enjoy a little bit of modelling work or map dev, my main roots are programming. When I first "attempted" learning R4300i assembly I saw a bunch of scary looking opcodes and ran home crying like a scolded bitch. However, this was a good 4-5 years ago, my programming knowledge has significantly increased and feel comfortable finally learning how to get down and dirty with some proper low-level programming. My C++ knowledge is pretty good (although a little rusty because I haven't been doing it recently, but that's neither here nor there) and am comfortable with pointers. So, the basics and the intermediates of programming stuff I already know. I took a gander at the original website which scared me from touching ASM this evening, and well, I felt reasonably comfortable with the very basic fundamentals of ASM within a reasonably short amount of time. Obviously, I only took a gander at the few opcodes there, such as LIU, ORI, ADDIU, and I would hardly say I could recite there exact parameters and what not right now (well, I could give it a crack!) but I was reading on how to hack enabler codes using ASM (the "how to crawl" of assembler tutorials...) and felt eerily at ease with it all within about 10 seconds. So, I've decided I would love to look into this further and see how far I can go down the rabbit hole. Mainly for a few reasons. 1) I'd love a better understanding of lower level code, and having that understanding on an embedded device would be fantastic 2) While probably not a massive game changer, being able to say I know R4300i assembly on my CV might help me stand out a little better 3) I want to tackle this monster I wanted to tackle all those years ago, but never could, mainly because I was scared and the only people who really knew r4300i assembly in 2006 were a pain in the arse 4) If I get good enough, I'd love to be able to help out with the URA Project. I know this is a fair way off, but I'd love to be involved with the greatest Ocarina mod of all time and would love to help push the URA Project forward. As my map making skills aren't... satisfactory, for any mod (haha), I figured I'd play on my strengths and get really hands on with assembly hacking. This fourth one is more of a "if I can get good enough, this is what I'd like to do" more then a "this is a guaranteed entry into the team once I know enough" - because I know it isn't. The first 3 reasons are my main motivation, the fourth would just be a very tasty cherry on the top. However, as I remember when I first started learning C++ all those years ago, it's all very well learning a language but if you don't have a battle plan of what to learn first, or rough projects to try and learn/hone those skills, you become a loose cannon and end up not really learning anything. As this forum seems to be the de-facto home for Ocarina lovers and assembly masters, I was wondering if you guys could help me get a rough idea of where I should start first, how I should progress, etc? I honestly don't really know where to start, outside of getting comfortable with the various "standard" opcodes (and even those I'd like a little hand with, or at least point me in the direction of a good (but friendly) resource). So yeah, if anyone can help me, I'd be sincerely appreciative. Otherwise I'll have to go at it alone, and well, I don't always do too well like that
  11. Anyway, here's a map which I made in Google Sketchup, which I originally exported using TIG's exporter and threw into SO and injected into Ocarina. However, I'm currently learning Unity, which unbeknownst to me supports OBJ files! Using the exported OBJ I put into SO, I literally just threw it into Unity from the project folder and it just worked. The beauty of it all? It's a flawless 1:1 copy on both SO and Unity - a true praise towards xdan and SO
  12. Personally I'd prefer a whole new Zelda done using OOT 3D's resources.
  13. http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/26/wii-u-getting-user-accounts-as-part-of-nintendo-network/ All sounds rather awesome
  14. The movies are pretty much in an alternate universe... for example, the heavy duty massive guy with the axe from Resi 5 (I forget his name now) appeared in the third movie (which does NOT take place in Africa...). It also largely follows a character called Alice, a human who manages to successfully integrate herself with the T-Virus to become super-human.
  15. Clearly that forum is no where near as cool as this one, then
  16. Either talking to a councellor, or going for a run helps. Going for a run helps you deal with stress as you're taking in a lot more oxygen and blood is running round more, which helps out your brain (and your heart, but that's not really what this is about). When going for a run you're getting all of that excess stress and anger out in one fell swoop, as well as giving yourself dedicated time to run stuff through your head and process it. The problem with Uni is that it's always very hands on and you don't get enough "you" time -- which is doubly bad for an autistic guy like yourself who struggles with general social norms anyway, as you've got the general life bullshit running around in your head as well as the other shit running around in your head because you're being perceived as "different". So yeah, taking some time out just to catalogue all of the shit going through your head just so you can deal with it is a massive stress buster. I'd also recommend getting some Yoga or Tai Chi in your life, if you can. Did you know a lot of Chinese men that do Tai-Chi (or other relative relaxation-based martial arts) are fitter when they're 90-odd then most men in their 30s in the US? Obviously it relaxes you AND makes you fitter. Hope that helps. EDIT: Also, you should probably give yourself a break too. Yes, I know that in this PC world autistic people shouldn't be given major leverage or treated differently or whatever, but well, you are different, you deal with some shit not as well as other shit. And well, I'm guessing you're not too great at big crowds and social interaction, and at Uni, you're pretty much massively forced into that. If you're not quite comfortable with that, that's fine, you shouldn't feel bad or be stressed out that you're getting stressed out (vicious cycle) just because other people aren't stressing out over the same scenario. End of the day, "perfectly normal" people get stressed or anxious if they're in a small room (claustrophobia) or they're near spiders or whatever. Everyone's got a fear of something, so just because your fear relates to your aspergers it doesn't mean you or other people should just shrug it off as "oh, he's autistic, doesn't matter". Throw a spider at someone who's scared of spiders and they wouldn't go "oh, he's got arachnophobia, it doesn't matter" so the same rule applies. Now, I'm not saying "you have aspergers so therefore nothing can be done about this so why bother", because that's not true, you should push yourself to try and alleviate those fears. However, you shouldn't beat yourself up because you're stressed about being stressy over your fears, that's not fair on yourself and it won't help anyone.
  17. No it gets aroused when you bang it OHCWUTIDIDTHERE
  18. I recently picked up Mario Land 3D and Mario Kart 7. Very, very good times
  19. I should have also said learning HTML5 and CSS, along with JavaScript, will also come in handy to develop some Metro applications when Windows 8 comes out, which is another source of revenue for you (if your apps are good enough, you can shove them on Windows Store and sell them for actual money). This will then also open a new path for you -- developing in Unity, a fully fleshed out game development engine which allows you to develop whole games using nothing but a language called UnityScript, which is extremely, extremely similar to JavaScript. With a Unity Pro licence you can port your game to PC, iPhone, Android, PS3, XBOX 360 and Wii with ease. http://unity3d.com/
  20. I'm autistic too and I haven't let that stop me do ANYTHING, ever. I've found hanging out with nerdy people usually helps build your self confidence to begin with, as it's still social interaction. Also, image make over helps quite a bit. For example, I wasn't always the best kept person, and I didn't entirely realise it until I caught some rather... not flattering pictures. For example, I was in your position when I kind of looked like this: Not bad, but hardly awesome either. Messy hair all the time, didn't matter what I wore, etc. Then I grew my hair long. Problem was, it was still the same issues but now I had long hair. I also graduated and became Superman - but that's not really relevant here I then decided to have it straightened and cut a little. Improvement, but there still wasn't something quite there. You can't entirely see it, but I was also gaining a bit of weight too. And then I was like, fuck it. Cut all my hair off, decided to don a suit and shirt, and grab an awesome pair of shades along the way. Now I feel awesome. You see, the thing is - there's a big difference between me and the first shot and the last shot. Obviously, yes, I look a lot sexier and fucking awesome, but the bigger difference is how I feel on the inside, and that's a lot more confident. You see, when you look good, you feel good. And well, when you feel good, you kind of exert yourself differently - even if it's not in a massive way people can notice a different aura about you. It's called confidence. Now, confidence isn't developed overnight. Just like a great video game, it takes a fair while to nuture and tune it to perfection. However, it gets easier as it goes along. If you don't feel overly comfortable approaching people, a good way is to, well, throw yourself in at the deep end, and grab yourself a shop job. In that line of work, you HAVE to meet and greet and you HAVE to get a dialog going. End of the day, it's only customers - 95% of them you probably won't see again and their overall opinion of you isn't of the highest importance either. These are the best kind of training wheels for confidence building - a place where you can build your confidence and overcome your shyness while having the safety net of not having to deal with that certain person within the next 5-10 minutes. If you mess up a little, oh well. There's always the next person and the customer will just shrug it off anyway and not really care. Take it from someone who has done exactly what I've just said. While, yes, I haven't 100% got over my shyness and not always 100% confidence, I've come leaps and bounds from where I used to be 5 years ago and it's all from what I've done above.
  21. You seem to be pretty tight with technology. Learn HTML and CSS (during the spare time which you seem to be in abundance of right now) - having website coding knowledge under your belt would be fantastic - especially if you can learn HTML5 (although HTML4 is cool, too). Once you've got a decent grasp of HTML4 and CSS (and I mean a decent grasp), go around the local shops or business and see if they'd like you to make a website for them for a small fee (we're talking small, like $50 or a $100 really - although if they're willing to pony up more, don't decline it!). This will help with 2 things - your money and your CV. Obviously you're only 12, so right now your CV probably doesn't mean shit, and that's fine. HOWEVER, having a little bit of experience in some field while you're young is never a bad thing, and obviously neither is a bit of cash. Seen as you are 12, I believe you're eligible to have a savings bank account - once you start to get a bit of money ask your parent(s) on advice on high interest savings accounts. As they're adults, they should know a good thing or two on what the best bank is around, or can at least help you find one. Save half of your money, and blow the other half on whatever the hell you like - after all, you've deserved it kid. As for fitness - go walking. Do you have an MP3 player or even a CD player of some kind? Get some of your favourite music, or even better, if you have a weekly podcast you enjoy, go download that and shove it on a CD or your MP3 player and listen to that while going for a walk. The biggest curve for people walking is literally because they either find it too daunting or too boring. If you're listening to music or listening to an enjoyable podcast, the time will fly by while you're walking and all of a sudden half an hour or an hour will have gone by with you noticing. End of the day, you don't need to be paying attention to loose weight, as long as you're doing the exercise! I'd also cut out sugary drinks - replace with a no-sugar or low-sugar squash which you're able to highly dilute, this way you still get a nice flavoured drink without nowhere near as many suagrs in your system. This also saves on a fuck ton of cash (a 2 litre bottle of squash will last you a magnitude of times longer then a bottle of pop will). I'd also suggest not drinking anything but water after 9pm (or 3 hours before your bed time). This will allow your body enough time to flush out some of the "bad stuff" so it doesn't sit in there when you're asleep, which never hurts. If you're drinking pop, there's a good chance it's got caffeine in it too, which will definitely not help you sleep, and also make you tired and slightly irritable. If you start to get some decent nights sleep (guys around your age usually need more then older people - so if you can get around 9-10 hours sleep it'd be a real benefit to you). The more awake you feel, the more alert you feel and you'll feel more able to get up and do tasks (like walking and coding websites!) and might even make you feel more confident just by feeling more perky. All of the above should help with your confidence too, which I'm guessing has taken a knocking. FUEL THE JET, WIN THE DAY.
  22. Let's everyone calm the fuck down folks, we don't want to go down the path which ZSO went down where everyone started turning on each other, or "elitist hierarchy" bullshit. While obviously I'm the new guy here, I can't see ANYONE that's deserving of post moderation on a case by case basis. If people are getting that antsy, they need to take a week's break from this place - go visit other friends, forums, towns, whatever. Take it from someone who has gotten really frustrated on forums before; It's best to just take a step back out and chill. Whatever argument your having today will probably blow over no later then next week (usually the next day or two) and is most certainly not going to have a big impact on the bigger picture for yourself, the other person, and everyone in general. As for your dekupk5, I see nothing wrong with your posts in general. The only time I've had even a slight negative thought about you is in this thread, and it's not even negative per-se, just... more concerned I guess. Everything is all cool dude, I wouldn't sweat it. Sure, one or two people might not agree with everything you say, but oh well. You're entitled to your opinion just as much as the other person is. As long as you're not trying to shove it down their throat or being overly antagonistic when you don't need to be (which... I've haven't really seen you be IIRC) then it's all good.
  23. I'm a moron. I saw the solution file not being updated and assumed that the whole projected hadn't been updated since then... >_> thanks haha.
