  1.

So LuigiBlood (he has dumped N64DD Roms and implemented support for the N64DD in Project64) was able to make the game read custom data from a fabricated disk rom. Has anyone been able to this in the past? I remember a post from @Zeth Ryder in which he bruteforced the game to start without a disk attached and some funny stuff happened, but dunno if he was able to add new text through this mechanic

  2. For those who haven't seen it:

Gonetz is going to implement shaders!
    https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/gliden64-graphics-plugin#activity

The campaign, as of now, has been 79% funded with only 10 days remaining. Please donate some spare change you might have, and share with people you know that might be interested.

Come on!  We're very close to the goal. Only $1224 USD to go. We can't let go this opportunity!  :D
We don't know when we might have another chance like this, or even if we'll have another one...

  3. Six-thousand USD? I can understand needing some funds to buy Android devices for that stretch goal, but several thousand dollars? Seriously? I don't doubt the guy's abilities, considering Glide64 before, but a croudfunding campaign to collect that much money for such a comparatively intangible project... that kinda rubs me the wrong way.

Also, compare ex. MarathonMan, who's working on a cycle-accurate N64 emulator for, AFAIK, just the hell of it.

Well... he said he has a famaly to take care of and recently he lost his job. He could get another job right now but he is taking advantage of his unemployement time to work on this project as his full-time job. I guess he needs the money to pay the bills ;)

Also this project isn't new. He had a blog here since 2013 where he has been writing all the technical details during the development of his plugin. I recommend you to check it out. :)

MarathonMan is doing an excellent job and for free, no doubt. But the project updates at slow pace, and he has admitted he has very little time to spend on CEN64 due to his RL job. Just as Gonetz before he lost his job. Also if for some reason the funding was unsuccessful Gonetz said he would still work on the project but he "does not know when [he] would have time to work on it."

So... we could have a fully working plugin in three months donating a few bucks and call it a day or in two/three/four years but for free. I'll take the former.

  4. Gonetz (co-creator of Glide64) just launched an Indiegogo campaign to finish his new plugin, GLideN64.

Sergey "Gonetz" Lipskiy is working on a next generation graphics plugin for Nintendo 64 emulators and is currently targetting Windows, Linux and Android. It will bring more accurate frame buffer and depth buffer emulation and many other features currently not supported by existing graphics plugins. He hopes to be able to work fulltime on the project with the help of an Indiegogo campaign.

His goal is to make the best HLE graphics plugin, highly accurate, fixing many of the issues that plagued other plugins, including his Glide64, and he wants this information spread as much as possible, as he now has a crowdfunding set up:

Many games like Majora's Mask (Lens of Truth), Perfect Dark (CamSpy), to name a few, but the biggest glitches that have plagued N64 emulation will at long last be fixed, if the funding goal is met.

He also has stretch goals for completing the Android port, porting to OS X, widescreen hack support, advanced AA, rendering in native res, and other stuff.

  5. Everything oddMLan changed, should be perfectly doable with css (as long as the colors are websafe) without affecting server load, except for "Added a very small smooth noise to the gray background.", as I assume the grey background is a css gradient rather than one big image.

I agree on several changes he did, especially the shadow in the search box, which was way to dark in my opinion. It looks like the search box goes very deep, and the search button pops out. It just look weird to me, I'd flatten it out a little.

As for the other things he did, I can barely even see the changes.

Actually all the changes I proposed are doable using CSS like you said, yes, including the small noise in the gray background, and without affecting the server load at all. Here's a link for everything needed. (Just a very small css snippet) And a live demo here.

The changes I proposed are minor and not very important, but those small details definitely make the skin look a bit more stylish and consistent overall. Again, IMO.

  6. Do you mind if I suggest other (minor) changes too?

    MKsXle8.png

    -Lessened the lower drop shadow.

-Added a very small smooth noise to the gray background.

-Added a bit of glow to the black/blue stripes bar.

-Changed the upper gradient to be less blueish.

-Flattened the search button a bit.

-Changed the search icon to monochrome.

-Changed the search box gradient a bit.

    -Made the header lighter overall

    What do you think? :)

Btw, how can I attach images directly into the forum?

  7. Okay, so I emailed Sherri back with the idea, and she embraced it and provided me with this:

    attachicon.gifMockUp-3.png

It beautifully merged the two together, and even she is more satisfied with it. I gave AikoRikiDaichi a first-hand look at this mock-up, and he felt that everyone would likely want to use that skin. With that said, and based on earlier comments on the other two mock-ups, I gave Sherri the go-ahead, and she will now begin making the skin. So, we are now on the way to having an awesome new design. :3

    Mmm... smexy!

Just a small nitpick tho, I suggest to decrease the lower drop shadow a bit, just like in the first mockup. It would look better IMO.
