  1. What did you use to export it like that? Most of the time I've found buggy programs from the 90's that barely work nowadays, especially on 64 bit OS's. I even had problems with ZLE2. Not to mention trying to import anything back was a rather pain, while I was reading the list off there, you found the japanese Toki no Okarina text plus the DISK logo that appears during the title screen?

Used an old tool of mine, based on the texture conversion code from OZMAV or OZMAV2; also used it ex. for the SF64 stuff I extracted for the game's TCRF page. Conversion of some formats seems broken, tho... could probably make a new extractor based on SayakaGL's code, which should be working for all texture types.

  2. MQ Debug ROM, object_mag:

    0x000000: ZELDA logo (32-bit RGBA)

0x019000: Nintendo copyrights, two versions (8-bit I? IA?)

0x01A400: MASTER QUEST + Ocarina icon (32-bit RGBA)

0x01E400: Ura triangle icon (32-bit RGBA)

    0x01FD00: "Disk" tag (8-bit I? IA?)

    0x020000: Logo background (4-bit I? IA?)

0x024C00: "THE LEGEND OF" text (8-bit I? IA?)

    0x024E40: "OCARINA OF TIMEâ„¢" text (8-bit I? IA?)

0x025140: "Zelda no Densetsu: Toki no Ocarina" text (8-bit I? IA?)

  3. In the N64 days, you had code in C, plus the SDK documentation talks about NIFF (Nintendo Intermediate File Format, apparently for 3D models, camera setup, animation, etc) and NuSystem (a C library to simplify usage of the N64 OS). No idea tho in what capacity or at what stage NIFF was involved - guess, as "Intermediate" implies, between modelling it in an external program like Maya and converting the data into a N64-compatible format.

  4. http://jaimito.devia...Arino-247084121 - especially Arino. And turn each of the ADs, former and present, Cameraman Abe, and hell, why not even Writer Kibe-kun and Producer Kan into Assist Trophies :)

But seriously, uhm... a Prime 1-style Space Pirate would be cool, maybe tying the beam used to the character color (in reference to the different types of Space Pirates in Prime corresponding to Samus' beams) or maybe a less "boss-ish" variant of the Omega Pirate?

  5. Seeing it, although only for about a second or so at a time. Before it appears to move again, I have to move my eyes to look elsewhere.

Also reminds me of this effect I'm sometimes seeing after looking at vertically scrolling credits after a movie or something; if the scrolling speed was just right, my eyes seem to continue to imply movement to my brain, which results in stuff like the TV appearing to move downwards a bit...

  6. Unexpectedly, I might have some pretty nice photos to show sometime next week... Two friends came over today - or rather yesterday by now, past 1am here - and pretty much insisted on helping me with the cleaning, putting stuff into storage in the basement, etc. Plus, we went to Ikea where I picked up that TV sideboard thing I mentioned. But I also have to call the store on Monday, as we accidentally forgot the two small shelves I also bought there... hope no other customer has seen them and/or took them with them, and I can just go and pick them up -.-

But for now, it's late, I think I'll have that cup of instant yakisoba I got earlier and then go to bed.

  7. Just messing with you. I love many types of anime too. Sure I like Paranoia Agent, Perfect Blue, and of coarse Serial Experiments Lain, but I've also watched stuff like Lucky Star, and few other lighter series.

Ah, wish I could say "figured as much" or something, but I wasn't sure. Anyway, yeah, I like my anime genres and styles varied as well - as an example of two "extremes", two of my favorites I've seen over the last five years are Nichijou (I guess over-the-top, at times surreal comedy?) and Welcome to the NHK (black comedy with drama elements, or maybe the other way 'round?).

(And on the subject of Lucky Star, my PC here is called Kagami :D)

  8. Nice wooden floor you got their.

It's sadly just wood-style floor covering, although an actual wooden floor would be nice.

Serial Experiments Lain, you surely have refined tastes in anime....

Oh wait, K-On? Maybe I spoke too soon. :D

Oh come on, sometimes you just need something simple and fun to enjoy without your brain going in circles :D
  9. Yay, so I started cleaning up this relative mess of a living room a few days ago, which hasn't seen all that much care since I moved in here around 1 1/2 years ago. Cardboard boxes, old hardware, unused crap, whatever else - all in this room. Now, look here...

    Posted Image

Not looking too bad, right? But well, that's only part of the story. To be exact, one of the corners of the room. So next, behold the mess that's still abound, going anti-clockwise from the desk:

Wonderful, huh? x_X ...oh well, just gonna keep the idea inside my head of how it's supposed to look once it's finished. Once the junk has been sorted out and thrown away, the boxes been looked through, contents set up or stored away, etc., etc. Will probably be hitting Ikea on the weekend for a new TV sideboard thingy, where the amp and some of the consoles will reside, plus the TV on top of that of course.

  10. The file select menu? The colors are probably inside the file select's overlay's data or code section - http://spinout182.co...l_file_choose.S -, but if so where exactly? No idea.

EDIT: some random ROM offsets, MQ Debug...

0xBE1320 - letters on name entry screen

    0xBE168C - colors for "File X" tags (00RR 00GG 00BB)

    0xBE1698 - default name

  11. Is there a precedent of Rare going after fan projects ala Square-Enix?

But whatever the case, this is looking really interesting; Here's hoping you'll be able to push through with this! Plus I'm also wondering if you're gonna have a blog for this - I just love reading posts about the development of games/emulators/etc.

  12. ニャンとか、このスレッドのニャかは語路合わせじゃなイカ?

...this one's horrible as well, and if I made any grammatical mistakes, give me my deserved divine punishment!

    EDIT:

Alien Crush: Working; unplayable because of missing sprite emulation

PC Genjin: Appears to hang when going in-game

R-Type: Strange glitches, credits keep counting up, doesn't go in-game, demo mode shows glitched graphics

Space Harrier: Title screen glitched, but appears to be working

Super Star Soldier: Also heavily glitched; at least goes in-game

    Vigilante: Same as Alien Crush

    EDIT 2:

Besides the still missing sprite support...

Parodius: Appears to work; some graphical glitches

PC Genjin: Appears to work as well

Space Harrier: Appears to works; ground now appears in-game, title screen still broken

Super Star Soldier: Appears to work, no more glitches

  14. As for "hacking" in the context of "unauthorized access to other computer systems", it really depends on the hacker's reason to do it. As you said, there's good and bad types of hackers ("white hat" and "black hat", I believe), so if someone accesses a company network with the intention of communicating the security hole he used to the company - i.e. "hey guys, there's this hole that can be used to access your internal stuff, you'd better fix it and here's how" - then it's fine in my opinion, as they're showing the company a potential attack vector someone could use for less honorable acts. However, if someone's only there for data theft or wrecking havoc - i.e. "gonna go in there and get the user data to sell it on the black market, then take them offline for the time being..." - it's obviously a bad thing.

And as for "hacking" in the context that we do here, that is "ROM hacking", what's there to admonish or whatever? It tends to be similar to the modding of PC games, besides the fact that ex. Nintendo is very unlikely to ever (officially) approve of this, unlike Valve for example. That said, there have been instances where ROM hacks - or, to be exact, fan translations - have been acknowledged inofficially; not by a company as a whole, but individuals from them. For example, didn't Tomato say in interviews about the Mother 3 translation that he got congratulations, even invitations to go out and drink or somesuch, from people from the industry (maybe NoA's Treehouse even, I forgot)?

  15.

Lemme quote the trailer's description: Nitronic Rush is an experimental survival driving game developed by students at DigiPen Institute of Technology. Using the car's many abilities (including boost, wings, and jump), avoid obstacles that the city throws at you. In many ways the game is a tribute to racing games of the 1990s, but with fresh graphics, audio, and gameplay.

And besides looking and sounding awesome, it's also really fun! Only thing that it's missing - unless I missed it - is multiplayer of some kind, be it just racing or some kinda battle mode.

  16. Hurrr... the PAL version's been dumped as well... and apparently really from a Swiss disc, as they officially got the game yesterday already.

...sooo tempting!! I could potentially finish, or at least get very far in it, before it even releases in the rest of Europe! And long before I actually buy it, as that has to wait until next month... oh man. <.<

    ^ More hypocrites!

Ahahahahaahahahaaaaaa-... haahaaaa-... Just... just so... I don't even know what to call this... "What are you using to make it?" - "HACKS". The only way this could've been even more hilarious, would be writing "HACKS" with a "Z"! Holy crap, is that symbol guy ever going to learn...? I'm not even going to say much about anything technical about this - like how MK7 isn't even out yet and, who knows, might use completely unknown file formats which they most certainly have no bloody idea about how to crack -, just... man, really?

I don't want to come across as too much of an ass here, but especially Mr. Symbol Guy really needs to be hit with reality. Someone go there and ask about the technical shit, I wanna see how he tries to wind himself out of that.

(...and damn, I really need some sleep.)
