REMAINING TIME

TIME HAS EXPIRED!

Posted Image

You are all hereby challenged to play Astro Warrior.

Astro Warrior is one of MANY space shooter games that was released in the 80s. However, it is unlike many games, in that it doesn't actually end (unless you have the version that was combined with "Hang On", in which case you just play the levels 3 times and then the game ends). You start in Galaxy Zone, before defeating the boss and proceeding to Asteroid Zone, where upon defeating this level's boss, proceed to Nebula Zone. Upon beating the third boss, you start back at Galaxy Zone, which is laid out identically as the beginning, but getting harder and harder.

RULES

There will be a few rules in place to allow for a fair go:

[*]You must play through from the start, until... well... you lose all your ships. You are permitted only ONE playthrough. [*]The clock must be initiated upon pressing START, stopping only once you get a GAME OVER. [*]No save states are to be used. [*]Once you reach GAME OVER, you must record how long you lasted, as well as your final score. [*]No game guides are permitted to be used, aside from the original instruction manuals which can be found online. [*]Sound must be enabled, and playing clearly for you. For the best experience, the music and sounds are necessary. [*]External controllers are permitted, to make things easier (or harder, depending on your setup). [*]Do not post your times here. Instead, send me a PM with the provided text files, subject name being Astro Warrior Challenge.

The community challenge will have a deadline: 10:00PM on December 18, 2012 (Australian Eastern Standard Time). You can use an online timezone converter to find out when exactly that is in your timezone, or simply look at the provided countdown timer above.

I am pleased to announce the winner of the Astro Warrior Community Challenge:

ZethN64

Once again, Zeth takes out another win. Now, this one is unique, due to the amount of time he spent in order to get this far. Upon reaching each level's boss, which is done in about a minute or so time, he then spent a while learning their patterns, and then dodging them as they began their kamikaze run towards him. Sadly, he did not manage to defeat Belzebul at the end of Nebula Zone, and ended up losing all 3 lives on that one boss. I lol'd. Belzebul was the easiest boss for me to beat. Anyway, the times and scores for each contender are as follows:

RANK
MEMBER
TIME
SCORE
LEVEL REACHED
1
ZethN64
0:15:23
117300
Nebula Zone - P1
2
Nero and his Hotsauce
0:03:10
60800
Asteroid Zone - P1
3
DeathBasket
0:03:14
59200
Asteroid Zone - P1
~UNCONFIRMED~
4
Naxylldritt
0:03:44
45200
Asteroid Zone - P1

Well done, and thank you to the participants. For now, challenges are suspended, and I will make some more after the busy Christmas/New Year period. Until then, have fun! :D
